Eddie McGuire is of the opinion that Carlton is likely to part ways with coach Michael Voss if the team slips to 0-5 after their clash with West Coast in round five, claiming he “understands Carlton’s patterns”.
The matchup against the Eagles marks a showdown of teams still seeking their first win during Gather Round, and another loss could severely dent Carlton’s aspirations for the finals.
With hopes high at the beginning of the season following a preliminary final appearance in 2023, Carlton anticipated a strong campaign this year, spending a significant portion of 2024 within the top four standings.
However, they have squandered four half-time advantages, including a setback against wooden spoon contenders Richmond, and have yet to register 80 points in any game this season.
Having dismissed four coaches since 2012, McGuire suggests that they may resort to this course of action again should the struggling Eagles defeat them in Adelaide.

“If Carlton is defeated by West Coast this weekend, I genuinely believe Voss will be under considerable pressure,” McGuire shared on Nine’s Eddie and Jimmy podcast.
“I’m well aware of Carlton’s tendencies.”
“I feel (Voss) could be in a precarious spot if they lose to West Coast.”
“I do, however, expect Carlton to come out firing and dominate against West Coast.”
“I got into a spot of bother for saying earlier that (Brett Ratten) was on his way out in 2012 and that Mick Malthouse would take over. I could see the writing on the wall.”
Voss has been at the helm of Carlton since 2022, leading the team to two finals victories—the first Blues coach to achieve this since David Parkin, who departed the club in 2000.
This year has already been tumultuous for Carlton off the field, marked by president Luke Sayers’ resignation following an inappropriate photo being leaked to his social media account.
Additionally, CEO Brian Cook is set to step down at the season’s conclusion, passing the baton to seasoned administrator Graham Wright.
