The condition of Adam Reynolds’ body is “crucial” to the Broncos’ plans to extend their captain’s contract for the 2026 season and beyond, according to Broncos director Darren Lockyer.
While Reynolds is yet to sign for next season, the experienced halfback has expressed his desire to continue playing next year and could potentially extend his career for another two seasons.
At least two competing Sydney clubs are reportedly keeping a close eye on his contract situation, although his inclination is to remain at Red Hill.
Reynolds’ injury history is well-documented, with a chronic knee issue being the primary reason the Rabbitohs released the premiership-winning playmaker in 2021.
During his first three seasons with the Broncos, he participated in 56 out of a possible 81 matches. Within that period, he led Brisbane to the 2023 grand final, coming agonisingly close to securing the championship.

With Ezra Mam currently serving a suspension and Ben Hunt signed on for next year, the Broncos and Reynolds face a significant decision ahead.
Should he choose to remain, there’s a good chance he may be asked to accept a pay cut.
A contract extension that would keep him at the Broncos until after his 36th birthday would echo the retirement of club legend Allan Langer in 2002.
“I believe Adam’s physical condition is vital to this discussion, so we’re hoping he can consistently stay fit, and if he continues to contribute as he has been,” Lockyer told Wide World of Sports’ QLDER.
“There are a few variables to consider; how will Ben Hunt’s situation pan out when Mam returns?
“Ezra could observe Ben and Adam for much of this season and gain some valuable insight.”
“However, it might be necessary to delay decisions about Adam’s future until around mid-year.”

“As mentioned, it’s another derby weekend, the Battle of Brisbane, where they’ll clash with the Dolphins. A compelling encounter awaits, and it will be intriguing to see if they can turn back time once more.”
Reynolds’ injury record is a significant factor in the ongoing negotiations, yet the Broncos No.7 will also have some bargaining power.
He scored 11 points in Friday’s victory over the Cowboys, surpassing Canberra legend Jarrod Croker in the all-time NRL points scoring chart.
With a total of 2375 points, Reynolds is on the path to catching Bulldogs great Hazem El Masri, who stands at 2418 points this season.
NRL Hall of Famer Cameron Smith holds the all-time record with 2786 points.
When approached about his future with the Broncos, Reynolds remained diplomatic.
“That will resolve itself in due course,” he remarked after the round three match against the Cowboys.
“I’m enjoying my time here, I have a fantastic team around me, and the coaching staff is exceptional.
“As long as I continue to take pleasure in my footy, I will focus on performing my role… if I keep doing that, the future will manage itself.”
