Ghanaian defender Alidu Seidu has expressed his determination to “come back stronger” in light of Stade Rennais extending his contract to 2029. The Ligue 1 club’s faith in him following a significant injury has provided a morale boost for Seidu.
This contract extension is a notable development for Seidu, who had originally joined Rennes on a four-year deal in January 2024, which was due to conclude in 2028.
Seidu’s tenure at Rennes launched positively, as he quickly established himself as a key player, clinching the Player of the Month accolade in September 2024.
Sadly, his promising campaign took a downturn when he sustained a serious ACL injury during a Ligue 1 clash against Lille in November 2024.
The injury required surgical intervention, and he is expected to miss the entirety of the 2024/25 season.
In spite of this setback, Rennes demonstrated remarkable support for Seidu by extending his contract by an additional year. He expressed his appreciation for this gesture and is motivated to return to the pitch in prime condition.
“I’m extremely happy at this club. By extending my contract, they have shown me love and confidence. I’m driven to work even harder to come back stronger and to repay that faith by performing well on the field.”
Five months into his recovery, Seidu’s rehabilitation is progressing well, aided by the club’s physiotherapy and training staff. He remains hopeful about achieving full fitness shortly.
“My recovery is going smoothly. The physio and physical trainers are doing an excellent job. My knee feels great, and I expect to be back on the grass very soon.”
The 24-year-old has made 26 appearances for Rennes since arriving in the winter transfer window of 2023/24 from Clermont Foot.
