Daniel Akinlosotu has shared insights into the remarkable bond he has developed with Nigerian football sensation Victor Osimhen.
With unmistakable respect, the 19-year-old starlet from Alanyaspor labels the Galatasaray forward as not merely a “great leader,” but also a true representation of excellence, both in gameplay and beyond.
Akinlosotu’s relationship with the Napoli loanee strengthened after a Super Lig encounter against the Yellow Reds in March, where Osimhen netted the pivotal goal, handing Akinlosotu’s side a 2-1 defeat on home soil.
This camaraderie has become a wellspring of inspiration for the young talent, who feels Osimhen’s impact extends far beyond his goal-scoring prowess.
He commented: “He regularly checks in on me, motivates me, and continuously encourages me to do whatever I need to reach the summit. In his own words, ‘the top is meant for everyone, not just for me.’
“Osimhen epitomises greatness. His influence and guidance inspire me every single day.
“Off the pitch, he’s a remarkable individual – humble, kind, and radiant. It’s no wonder everyone holds him in such high regard. His character is as formidable as his on-field presence.”
A Spotlight on Africa Through Osimhen
Despite playing a pivotal role in escorting Napoli to Serie A glory, Osimhen’s tenure in Naples took an unexpected twist.
After a last-minute failed transfer to Saudi Pro League outfit Al-Ahli on deadline day, he found himself abruptly excluded from the first-team squad by Antonio Conte, sparking his transfer to Turkey.
Now, as he leads Okan Buruk’s side in their quest for a record-setting 25th league title, the former Lille forward stands at the forefront of the goalscorers list with 21 strikes.
The Abuja native regards Osimhen as a transformative figure, asserting that he has significantly reshaped the perception of African footballers in Europe, particularly in Turkey.
“Osimhen is nothing short of phenomenal this season,” Akinlosotu noted. “I watch him consistently, and he’s pulling off feats even more incredible than before.
“Every season, he evolves and modifies his style, and this year, he’s even better. I particularly admire his drive. He elevates his team, consistently stepping up when needed and setting a benchmark for younger players.
“He isn’t merely an exceptional player; he’s a role model, a legend—especially for someone from my country. Historically, African and Nigerian players have faced oversight, but with Osimhen’s ascension, the spotlight is firmly on us. He’s brought goals, flair, and culture—he’s put Africa back in the limelight.
“Now, there is genuine respect for Nigerian talent. Osimhen has achieved so much, not just for football, but for the pride of Africa. He represents us magnificently.”
Alanyaspor’s Relegation Battle
Having excelled in the Thunders’ youth programme, Akinlosotu has earned his place in the senior squad. Unfortunately, the club’s dismal form has left them vulnerable in the relegation zone, currently occupying 17th place with just 31 points garnered from 29 games.
Alanyaspor, with a streak of five consecutive losses in the league, now faces a daunting challenge to stave off relegation. They must defy the odds in the remaining five fixtures, commencing with a crucial encounter against Samsunspor on Monday at the Alanya Oba Stadium.
The poised Nigerian teenager is undeterred by the relegation threat and remains optimistic about his team’s survival prospects. “The squad is putting in the effort, and the atmosphere is positive,” he affirmed.
“Everyone is aware of the significance of the next match (against Samsunspor), and we firmly believe we can achieve a positive outcome.
“We’ve never lost hope because our team has faith in the league, and we’ve been a part of it for more than ten years. We’re training hard to secure a win in the upcoming game, and the outlook is promising.
“The motivation, energy, and environment have all improved. We’re hopeful of securing the three points we deserve in the next encounter, and we have no intention of being relegated.”
The versatile Akinlosotu also commends his manager, former Portugal international Joao Pereira, who has significantly influenced his development in European football.
Akinlosotu added: “Pereira is an exceptional coach. Firstly, he’s a respected former international who’s played in this league, so he comprehends it deeply.
“He possesses the insight to help young players transition into the league smoothly and fosters a solid rapport within the team. He even participates in our training sessions to motivate us.
“He delivers personalised training, collaborates closely with us, and aids our improvement. He has been instrumental in my progression as a player, and I truly appreciate working alongside him.”
