Former Brazil national team manager Tite has announced he will be taking an indefinite hiatus from his career to prioritise his mental and physical well-being.
The 63-year-old, who guided Brazil to victory in the 2019 Copa America, was hospitalised for a heart condition last August. He was dismissed by Flamengo the following month and had recently been in discussions regarding the managerial position at Corinthians.
“I’ve come to understand that there are times when it’s important to acknowledge our vulnerabilities as human beings, and recognising this will undoubtedly make me stronger,” Tite shared in a statement on his son Matheus Bachi’s Instagram on Tuesday.
“I have a deep passion for my profession and will continue to do so, but after discussions with my family and closely observing the signals my body has been sending me, I’ve decided that stepping away from my career is the right choice for now, for as long as is necessary.”
“As has been made known, there were ongoing talks with Corinthians, but this had to be put on hold due to a challenging yet essential decision.”
Tite, who resigned as Brazil’s coach after their quarter-final defeat in the 2022 World Cup, has previously managed several Brazilian clubs, including Gremio, Atletico Mineiro, and Palmeiras.
