Arjan Veurink, assistant coach for the England women’s football team, is set to leave his position after the upcoming European Championship to assume the role of head coach for the Netherlands women’s team, the Football Association of England announced on Tuesday.
Veurink will take over from Andries Jonker, who has led the team since 2022.
The 38-year-old Dutch national previously held the position of assistant coach for the Netherlands women’s team from 2017 to 2021 before joining England under Sarina Wiegman’s guidance.
During his tenure with England, Veurink played a pivotal role in securing victories at Euro 2022, the Women’s Finalissima in 2023, and achieving a runner-up finish at the 2023 World Cup. He was also part of the Dutch coaching staff that won Euro 2017.
Wiegman and Veurink have collaborated closely since 2017.
“Veurink is a highly valued and respected member of Sarina Wiegman’s coaching staff, and his full attention is dedicated to the Lionesses’ current UEFA Women’s Nations League campaign as well as this summer’s tournament in Switzerland,” stated the FA in their announcement.
The European Championship is scheduled to take place in Switzerland from July 2nd to July 27th, with defending champions England kicking off their campaign against France on July 5th.
