England midfielder Jude Bellingham needs to adopt a more disciplined approach to maximise his impact when it matters most, according to manager Thomas Tuchel.
The 21-year-old has already scored 11 goals for Real Madrid this season and has found the back of the net six times in 41 appearances for England.
Bellingham, who assisted Myles Lewis-Skelly’s first goal in Friday’s 2-0 victory over Albania at Wembley, was also instrumental in England’s journey to the European Championship final last year in Germany, where they were defeated by Spain.
When asked if Bellingham might be overexerting himself ahead of Euro 2024, Tuchel responded: “Yes, he is always eager to give his all, but we need to guide him in a way that allows him to play more efficiently within a structure, while still maintaining or possibly increasing his impact.”
“It’s crucial that the leaders—Bellingham being one of them—and the key players are aligned and contribute to the same rhythm, supporting each other.”
“They should adopt a slightly more disciplined approach to conserve energy for critical moments.”
Tuchel observed that Bellingham always seeks to be actively involved on the pitch.
“He tends to engage with the referee and the linesmen,” he noted. “He’s a passionate player when on the field, and it’s evident that he loathes losing, doing whatever it takes to succeed…”
