The England manager, Thomas Tuchel, has called on FIFA to reconsider the scheduling of the international window in June, expressing concerns that it fails to provide players with a sufficient rest period at the conclusion of the season.
“The June window is far from ideal for anyone, particularly for the players,” he remarked to the British press on Tuesday.
“It’s up to FIFA to possibly adjust the calendar and identify a suitable slot to reschedule this window for the benefit of the players.”
“My primary concern isn’t the sheer number of matches players are participating in; rather, it’s that they scarcely receive a genuine break of three to four weeks … That’s the real issue.”
England skipper Harry Kane recognised the importance of player welfare but suggested that the current situation is manageable with adequate backing from clubs and coaching staff.
“There are justifications from clubs aimed at generating more revenue, but we also have to consider player welfare and the limits we face to avoid increasing injuries,” Kane stated.
“I don’t believe players’ voices are heard as much as they should be.”
“I’m passionate about playing football, so I won’t complain about being on the pitch. If it’s managed properly, alongside your coaches and clubs, there are ways to secure additional rest during key periods.”
