West Coast captain Oscar Allen is reportedly set to test the free agency waters, with a potential move to reigning champions Brisbane on the cards, as suggested by Nine’s chief AFL reporter Tom Morris.
Having recently had discussions with Hawthorn coach Sam Mitchell, Allen stands out as one of the most sought-after players in the free agency pool. The Lions are a fitting choice, given their need to fill the gap left by the retired Joe Daniher.
Morris has outlined three key reasons why the 26-year-old seems inclined to make the cross-country switch.

“As things stand, Oscar Allen is keen to join the Brisbane Lions next season,” Morris reported during Nine’s Footy Classified.
“With his contract expiring at the end of the year, he has entered free agency.
“There are three main factors influencing his desire to play for the Lions. Firstly, the appeal of a long-term contract offers significant security—over six years—which would provide for his family.
“Another factor is the Lions’ current position as a contender, putting them in the running for the premiership next year.

“The third factor is the potential for the Brisbane Lions to assist in recovering his knee issues. They have a track record for successfully rehabilitating players with injuries, including Lincoln McCarthy, Callum Ah Chee, and Joe Daniher.
“It’s definitely a situation to keep an eye on. Though things could change before the end of the season, if it were to conclude now, Allen would likely head to the Lions as a free agent.”

Earlier this year, when asked by reporters about his long-term future with the Eagles, Allen expressed his desire to stay.
“Absolutely, I do,” he stated.
“I’m not going to delve into details. I truly love this club and I’m eager to continue playing for the remainder of the season.”
In the meantime, the Lions have turned to young prospect Logan Morris and enlisted veteran Sam Day from Gold Coast as they look to temporarily address the void left by Daniher.
