Dylan Walker has shared the reasons behind his decision to return to Australia to join the Eels after being released by the Warriors for compassionate reasons.
His choice was largely free from the usual buzz of speculation typical in the rugby league scene, especially with expectations that he might step in to replace Tohu Harris in the lock position following his unexpected retirement.
However, with Erin Clark stepping up to fill that role, the Warriors consented to Walker’s release despite the season already being well underway.
The 30-year-old revealed to the press on Wednesday that he did not want to miss the opportunity to watch his young children grow up.
“It felt like it was the right time for me to come home and be a dad,” he stated.

“The main thing is that my kids are growing up and starting to play footy, and I want to be present to see their first game and first training session. Today I had the chance to be the footy dad at the oval,” he added.
Despite the Eels currently sitting at the bottom of the ladder with four straight losses, Walker is confident they can turn things around.
“There’s a talented group of players here and a solid bunch of blokes. Combine those two elements, put in the hard work, and just tweak a few things, and you’ll be on your way,” he said.
“That’s my aim here, to help us win games and support the growth of these guys.”

The Eels are hoping to welcome back their star halfback and captain, Mitchell Moses, soon to help address their rocky start. Moses began on-field running again on Wednesday, with the Eels confirming he’s on track for a round nine return.
Walker understands that keeping it simple will be key when the halfback returns.
“I’m no LeBron James or Michael Jordan, but I know my role and how I can assist him,” he remarked.
