The Dutch Football Association (KNVB) has presented a cheque to its Spanish counterpart, the RFEF, to assist those affected by the severe flooding in the Spanish city of Valencia.
Before the UEFA Nations League quarter-final match between Spain and the Netherlands, held at Valencia’s Estadio Mestalla, the KNVB donated €10,000 to support local football clubs impacted by the floods.
Furthermore, all proceeds from ticket sales for Sunday’s match will also be directed towards aiding victims of last year’s calamity.
In October 2024, the city experienced significant flooding caused by a severe storm, referred to as a ‘gota fria’. The disaster claimed 231 lives and inflicted damages exceeding 11 billion Euros.
“We at the KNVB believed it was essential to take additional action,” remarked Gijs de Jong, Secretary General of the Dutch FA. “Witnessing the devastation of these floods firsthand today was truly heartbreaking. What has occurred here is utterly tragic.”
