The Pakistan Cricket Board has strongly denounced what it describes as the verbal abuse directed at its players by Afghan fans during a tense one-day international clash against New Zealand on Saturday.
In an official statement following a 43-run defeat to New Zealand at Mount Maunganui, the PCB revealed, “During the match, foreign spectators directed inappropriate comments at our cricketers on the field.”
Khushdil Shah intervened when anti-Pakistan chants erupted from the stands, according to the PCB.
“The situation escalated with Afghan spectators resorting to further offensive language in Pashto, which is predominantly spoken in Afghanistan and Pakistan,” the PCB noted.
Officials at the stadium took action, removing “two disruptive spectators,” as stated by the governing board.

The Black Caps completed a clean sweep of the three-match series, winning all three games, while the tourists also faced a disappointing outcome in the five-match T20 series, losing 4-1.
During the match, opening batter Imam-ul-Haq had to retire hurt after sustaining a minor facial injury from an accidental throw by a New Zealand player in the third over of Pakistan’s innings.
Imam underwent a CT scan at Tauranga Hospital, which returned normal results. He was diagnosed with a mild concussion, according to the PCB, but was subsequently cleared to fly back with the team.
