Former England international Dominic Calvert-Lewin confirmed on Sunday his departure from Everton on a free transfer, following the inability to reach an agreement on a new contract with the club.
The 28-year-old forward expressed his desire for a “new challenge” after spending nine memorable years on Merseyside.
Once serving as the understudy to Harry Kane for the England national team, Calvert-Lewin tallied four goals in 11 international appearances.
His last appearance for the England squad occurred during their run to the final of Euro 2020.
He concludes his time at Everton as the club’s third-highest goalscorer in the Premier League, with 71 goals from 273 matches across all competitions.
Unfortunately, his career has been marred by several significant injury setbacks, which have kept him out of action for extended periods.
“After nine incredible years at this club, it’s been an incredibly tough decision—made together with my family—to embark on a new chapter in my career,” Calvert-Lewin shared in an Instagram post.
“The decision to move on wasn’t solely about me; it’s something my family and I deliberated on for a considerable time.
“We believe now is the right time to pursue a new challenge and continue growing, but that doesn’t diminish the connection I will forever have with Everton.”
Clubs such as Manchester United, Newcastle, and Chelsea have previously been linked with a potential move for Calvert-Lewin.
