Paris Saint-Germain has been given a significant lift ahead of their Champions League semi-final second leg against Arsenal on Wednesday, with Ousmane Dembele cleared to play. The French champions are eager to harness their growing team synergy to secure a spot in the final.
Dembele, who netted the solitary goal in last week’s 1-0 triumph at the Emirates Stadium, sustained a muscle injury during that encounter but will be ready for action at the Parc des Princes.
“He has been training with the team for two days, so he is fit for tomorrow,” PSG manager Luis Enrique confirmed at a press conference on Tuesday.
This news comes as a relief for a PSG squad whose success this season has been founded more on camaraderie and tactical intelligence than individual flair, a quality that has often eluded them in past European outings.
Luis Enrique, tasked with reshaping a team once focused on star power, has openly stated his goal of creating a cohesive unit capable of competing at the pinnacle of football.
“This season, we’ve developed significantly as a team,” he remarked. “We must be prepared for any situation and maintain our focus from beginning to end.
“The aim for the coming years is to continue enhancing our process,” he added, reflecting on last season’s semi-final defeat to Borussia Dortmund.
The team’s evolution was clear in the first leg in London, where PSG’s solid formation, aggressive pressing, and purposeful possession stifled Arsenal’s attacking flow.
Defender Achraf Hakimi highlighted that the team’s emergent identity has been pivotal to their journey.
“The secret lies in expressing our character with and without the ball and maintaining high pressure,” Hakimi stated.
“Arsenal will soon realise that the Parc des Princes is our fortress.”
PSG’s only appearance in a Champions League final ended in a defeat to Bayern Munich in 2020, while Arsenal’s single final was back in 2006, where they fell to Barcelona in Paris.
“We need to perform at the same level as last week; however, while many expect a similar game, I assure you it will be a completely different experience,” Luis Enrique warned.
The victors will meet either Inter Milan or Barcelona, who clash later on Tuesday, in the final set for May 31st in Munich.
