Rugby league legends are urging the Roosters to mandate a break for Victor Radley following his seventh unsuccessful HIA over the past four years.
During the match against the Knights on Saturday night, Radley was left reeling after receiving a blow to the side of the head from Fletcher Hunt’s thigh towards the end of the first half.
He remained on the ground for an extended period before being escorted off the field. A category two HIA was deemed necessary, but he failed the assessment during the half-time interval.

On Nine’s Sunday Footy Show, Andrew Johns stated that the Roosters must intervene in Radley’s situation.
“The foremost priority is the player’s health, and that decision can’t be left to Victor, especially given his track record,” Johns remarked.
“The Roosters lead the way in managing head injuries—just look at their early retirement of Boyd Cordner and Jake Friend.”
“It’s essential to take the decision away from him, but this is a worrying trend for Victor.”

Johns noted that a “flaw” in Radley’s tackling style, combined with the NRL’s stringent measures against high contact, makes him more vulnerable to head injuries.
“With the current emphasis on avoiding high tackles, defensive players are often encouraged to go low, targeting knees, hips, and elbows, which can lead to more concussions,” he explained.
“Radley has a flaw in his technique; he plays at full throttle, attempting to smash opponents. We appreciate his passion, but it poses significant risks.”
Darren Lockyer pointed out the “alarming” aspect of this latest incident was how relatively innocuous the impact appeared to be.
“What’s concerning is that it wasn’t an especially forceful collision, so when players are sustaining concussions from relatively minor hits, that’s quite worrying,” he remarked.
“He might need a break; the decision should be taken out of Victor’s hands, as he’ll likely want to play every match.”
The Roosters are set to face the Cowboys next weekend, followed by a week off in round 17.
