Brad Fittler has delivered a scathing critique following the Sydney Roosters’ trial defeat to the Knights, as the club’s rebuilding efforts face an uncertain beginning.
The Tricolours have suffered significant departures during the off-season, losing key players such as Jared Waerea-Hargreaves, Joseph Manu, and Luke Keary.
This has presented coach Trent Robinson with perhaps the most formidable challenge of his career, and unfortunately, the pre-season did not begin well.
In their opening match, the Roosters were defeated by the Dragons. Despite being short-handed with several regulars absent, they managed to put up a decent fight against the Red V.
However, on Sunday afternoon under sweltering conditions, Robinson’s squad was close to full strength but was utterly dominated, losing 48-10 to Newcastle.

When asked whether fans should be concerned during an interview with 2GB’s Wide World of Sports Radio, the premiership-winning coach provided a blunt response.
“Yes… just a yes,” Fittler replied.
“At the end of the day, you still get a chance to defend your line, and they conceded 50 points against a team still trying to find their way in Newcastle.
“I felt they needed to step up; they should have performed better.
“With all their stars on the field, it looked like they just didn’t click.”
The beleaguered Roosters will have some time to regroup before their round one encounter with the Broncos, although they will be without front-rower Spencer Leniu, who is serving a suspension.
