The group stage of the inaugural expanded FIFA Club World Cup has concluded, allowing us to reflect on the standout players from the 48 matches that took place.
Utilising our internal evaluation system, we’ve identified the top performers who featured in at least two of their team’s three matches and played a minimum of half the available minutes during those fixtures.
Here’s our compilation of the Team of the Group Stage:

Goalkeeper
Nathan Garrow (Auckland City) – 7.9
Following Conor Tracey’s ten-goal concession in Auckland City’s opening defeat to Bayern Munich, Garrow was brought in to start their subsequent matches, and the young Kiwi made the most of the opportunity.
Despite conceding six goals against Benfica, he recorded an impressive ten saves, going on to prevent another ten shots during the 1-1 stalemate with Boca Juniors.

Defenders
Nicolas Otamendi (Benfica) – 8.0
Having previously earned a spot in our Team of the Season, the seasoned defender Otamendi has seamlessly continued his form for Benfica in the Club World Cup.
In a match against Bayern, he successfully executed four tackles and made nine clearances, remained steadfast defensively, assisted against Auckland, and netted a last-minute equaliser against Boca Juniors to atone for an earlier own goal.
Alexander Barboza (Botafogo) – 8.2
As our standout defender thus far, Argentinian centre-back Barboza has made every moment count on this prestigious stage, showcasing his talents against PSG and Atletico Madrid.
His impressive ratings stem from robust defensive performances, averaging 3.7 tackles and 11 clearances per game while dominating aerial duels.

Alessandro Bastoni (Inter) – 7.8
Bastoni has thrived under the guidance of new coach Christian Chivu at Inter, displaying the same high level he showcased during a strong Serie A season.
Consistently dependable defensively, he shone particularly with his goal against River Plate, where he skillfully navigated past two opponents before firing home from just outside the area.
Midfield
Michael Olise (Bayern Munich) – 8.3
Olise, our highest-rated player from the season, currently shares the top rating spot at the Club World Cup.
He was merciless against Auckland City, contributing two goals and two assists, later sealing victory against Boca Juniors with a superb late finish.
Leandro Barreiro (Benfica) – 7.9
Having spent much of the season on the sidelines at Benfica, Barreiro turned heads at the Club World Cup, showcasing his ability when called upon.
He found the net twice in quick succession against Auckland and made a significant impact against Bayern, winning six out of nine duels.
Ruben Neves (Al Hilal) – 7.8
European viewers have been quickly reminded of Ruben Neves’ capabilities in the early stages of the tournament, as he took charge for Al Hilal.
He converted a penalty in the draw against Real Madrid and provided five crucial passes over three matches, misplacing only 19 of the 216 passes he attempted.

Kenan Yildiz (Juventus) – 7.8
Operating in a free role just behind the striker, the 20-year-old Yildiz has been the driving force for Juventus during their stay in the United States.
His contributions include three goals and one assist, all showcasing his impressive quality.
Attack
Angel Di Maria (Benfica) – 8.3
Di Maria is making a grand exit from Benfica ahead of his transfer to his boyhood club Rosario, lighting up the tournament in the process.
Although all three of his goals have come from penalties, the 37-year-old has also provided five key passes and achieved six successful dribbles, proving he remains a top-tier performer as he departs European football.

Randal Kolo Muani (Juventus) – 8.0
Having concluded his Serie A season with three goals in his last five matches and a score for France against Spain, Kolo Muani has retained that form across the Atlantic.
He kicked off the tournament explosively, netting two goals in the first half against Al Ain and creating two significant opportunities against Wydad, one of which resulted in a goal.
Luiz Araujo (Flamengo) – 7.9
Flamengo has been one of the standout teams throughout the tournament, with former Lille player Araujo emerging as a key player.
He contributed with a goal, an assist, and three crucial passes against Esperance, causing constant issues for the opposition during their clash with LAFC.
