FIFA announced on Wednesday that the champions of this year’s 32-team Club World Cup, set to take place in the US, will receive up to $125 million.
The governing body for world football revealed earlier this month a total prize pool of $1 billion for the event, scheduled from June 14 to July 13, which reflects the pressing financial regulations impacting clubs.
“FIFA will not hold back any funds for this tournament, as all revenues will be distributed to club football, and it won’t utilise FIFA’s reserves intended for the global development of the sport across the 211 FIFA Member Associations,” stated FIFA president Gianni Infantino.
Approximately half of the $1 billion prize total will be allocated to the 32 participating clubs, with distributions based on sporting achievements and commercial performance. This means that larger clubs like Manchester City and Real Madrid will receive a larger share compared to smaller clubs, following a model created in collaboration with the European Club Association.
An additional $475 million will be distributed based on performance, rewarding teams that secure the most victories in a maximum of seven matches, with the top prize of $125 million available.
“It’s yet another summer with no real break,” Kane remarked this week. “We’re getting accustomed to it, but there’s not much we can do about it.”
The Bayern Munich striker remains optimistic about the tournament, sharing with FIFA.com that his ambition is: “To win it. We’re undoubtedly one of the best teams in the world, so our objective in every tournament is to come out on top.”
