On Friday night, the Danish women’s national team kept their aspirations for top position in the Nations League alive with a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Wales.
Despite encountering difficulties in executing their game strategy, Denmark managed to secure a win against Wales in their UEFA Women’s Nations League A Group 1 match held at Cardiff City Stadium.
The Danes started the contest strongly and took the lead after just six minutes. Signe Bruun, celebrating her 50th appearance for the national side, found the back of the net with a precise shot from the edge of the box, giving Denmark a 1-0 advantage.
Wales equalised just before the half-hour mark, as Rhiannon Roberts delivered a cross to Ceri Holland, who skilfully cut inside and unleashed a powerful shot into the top corner.
The home side nearly went ahead when Lily Woodham set up Hannah Cain, but her attempt went over the crossbar.
Both teams struggled to find their rhythm in a somewhat chaotic second half. Denmark’s Amalie Vangsgaard squandered a great opportunity to regain the lead with 20 minutes remaining, sending her shot well over the goal.
Shortly after, Cain broke through on goal following a long ball from Alice Griffiths but was denied by Danish goalkeeper Maja Ostergaard.
The match took a dramatic turn when Emma Snerle sent a perfectly weighted pass through to Vangsgaard, who made no mistake this time, securing the win for Denmark.
Denmark is set to face Italy on Tuesday in another pivotal Nations League encounter at home.
