Manchester City winger Jack Grealish will not be permitted to join another club on loan this summer, despite speculation linking him to Aston Villa and Tottenham.
According to talkSPORT, City is unwilling to jeopardise their squad’s strength by allowing a temporary transfer and acknowledges that no club is likely to meet the £100 million fee they paid for the 29-year-old back in 2021.
The England international has been assessed as surplus to requirements by manager Pep Guardiola, who is keen on reshaping his squad this summer.
However, with a loan move no longer on the table, a permanent transfer could become a reality, especially since his playing time is expected to decrease next season as City looks to bolster their ranks following a disappointing campaign.
Former Villa scout Bryan King shared his insights with Villa News, indicating that while Grealish is currently settled in the North West, a return to the Midlands is still a possibility if the right opportunity presents itself.
“I believe Grealish will make a return to the Midlands,” King stated.
“He is comfortable where he is at the moment, but his roots are in the Midlands.”
“If there were to be a deal involving Rogers, I could definitely see him going back to Villa, especially if Manchester City is interested in that type of player.”
With Marcus Rashford sidelined for the remainder of the season, manager Unai Emery might look to Grealish as a cost-effective solution, given his strong ties to the club, where he netted 32 goals in 212 appearances over several seasons.
As the transfer window approaches, Grealish is expected to be a hot topic, and a fairytale return to Villa could unfold if Emery deems Rashford’s £40m release clause too steep.
