UEFA has imposed a hefty fine of €31 million (approximately AUD 36.5 million) on Chelsea for violating its financial regulations. Other clubs, including Aston Villa, Barcelona, and Olympique Lyonnais, have also been subjected to significant financial penalties, as announced by UEFA on Friday.
The sanctions carry the potential for even more severe consequences in the future, with Chelsea facing the possibility of an additional €60 million fine if they fail to rectify their financial situation.
Barcelona has been fined €15 million, while Olympique Lyonnais has received a €12.5 million fine and Aston Villa must pay €5 million.
These clubs have entered into settlement agreements that span periods of two, three, or four years, committing to fully adhere to the financial fair play regulations by the end of their designated settlement timeline.
Furthermore, Lyon has accepted a penalty that includes exclusion from the UEFA club competitions in the 2025/26 season, contingent upon confirmation of the club’s relegation to Ligue 2 by the French governing body, DNCG.
