Championship side Watford have parted ways with manager Tom Cleverley on Tuesday after a lacklustre 14th-place finish in the English second division.
The former Premier League outfit managed to secure just one point from their last five matches, leaving them a substantial 11 points adrift of the play-off spots.
Cleverley, a former midfielder for Manchester United, Watford, and the England national team, stepped in as interim manager at Vicarage Road in March last year following the departure of Valerien Ismael, before being confirmed as the permanent head coach the next month.
“We are grateful to Tom for his contributions, not only in his capacity as head coach but also for everything he has done for Watford as a player and staff member,” commented sporting director Gian Luca Nani.
“However, we believe it is time for a change, enabling us to build upon what we see as a promising and talented squad that will grow from the experiences of this Championship season.”
