Debuts rarely get any better than this, as Central Coast Mariners midfielder William Wilson made a stunning impact in his first senior international outing for Kenya, clinching a dramatic equaliser in the 2026 FIFA Men’s World Cup qualifying campaign.
Wilson found the back of the net in the 96th minute, helping Kenya recover from a two-goal deficit to secure a thrilling 3-3 draw against CAF rivals Gambia, under the new management of former Manchester United assistant coach Benni McCarthy.
The 23-year-old, who has Australian heritage alongside his Kenyan roots, was brought on at half-time and salvaged a point for his team with his late goal, marking a significant moment after receiving his first international call-up.
Following this draw, Kenya remains in fourth place in Group F of the African World Cup qualifying standings, currently six points behind group leaders Gabon and four behind Ivory Coast.
This season, Wilson has made five appearances for the reigning Isuzu UTE A-League champions, the Mariners, totaling seven appearances across all competitions in the 2024-25 season.
