FC Nordsjaelland have parted ways with 23-year-old Swedish international striker Benjamin Nygren, who has signed with Scottish club Celtic.
After making 107 appearances and netting 35 goals, FC Nordsjaelland bids farewell to Nygren, who has transitioned to the Scottish champions Celtic.
Approaching his 24th birthday, Nygren joined the Danish club from Genk in January 2022 and leaves as the fourth highest goal scorer in the history of FC Nordsjaelland.
Although FC Nordsjaelland hasn’t disclosed the transfer fee, Sky Sports previously reported that Celtic is set to pay just over two million euros for a player with only six months remaining on his contract.
“I arrived at FC Nordsjaelland as a young boy, and I’m leaving the club as a more mature individual,” Nygren commented on the FC Nordsjaelland website.
“My time here has been incredible, and I’ve evolved significantly, both as a footballer and as a person,” he added.
In the last season, Nygren stood out as the top scorer at the Danish club with 15 goals, finishing just five behind the leading scorer in the Danish Superliga, Patrick Mortensen from AGF.
“Regular play has been vital for me, providing significant challenges both in the Superliga and in the Conference League, while I’ve had the opportunity to play alongside some exceptional teammates who have contributed to my development.”
“I want to express my gratitude to all my fellow players and the coaches who have assisted me in regaining my confidence and becoming the player I am today,” stated Nygren.
FC Nordsjaelland’s football director, Alexander Riget, believes Nygren is embarking on a new chapter in his career after a remarkable development period at the Danish club.
“He has been an asset to our environment with his relentless desire to improve and his ability to inspire the squad,” Riget remarked.
