FC Nordsjaelland have transferred their 23-year-old Swedish international striker, Benjamin Nygren, to Scottish club Celtic.
Following a notable spell at the club, where he made 107 appearances and scored 35 goals, FC Nordsjaelland bids farewell to Nygren as he joins the Scottish champions Celtic.
Approaching his 24th birthday, Nygren made the switch to the Danish side from Genk in January 2022 and leaves as the fourth-highest goalscorer in FC Nordsjaelland’s history.
While the transfer fee has not been disclosed by FC Nordsjaelland, reports from Sky Sports suggest that Celtic will pay just over two million euros for the striker, who had only six months remaining on his contract.
“I arrived at FC Nordsjaelland as a young boy, and I’m leaving the club as a man,” Nygren remarked on the FC Nordsjaelland website.
“My time here has been incredible, and I have developed significantly both as a player and as an individual,” he added.
Last season, Nygren was the leading scorer for the Danish club, netting 15 goals, putting him just five behind the top goalscorer in the Danish Superliga, AGF’s Patrick Mortensen.
“Regular play and challenging myself in both the Superliga and the Conference League have been essential for my growth, and I’ve had the privilege to play alongside some excellent talents who have contributed to my development,” Nygren explained.
“I want to express my gratitude to all my teammates and coaches who helped me regain my confidence and become the player I am today,” he concluded.
FC Nordsjaelland’s football director, Alexander Riget, believes Nygren is now ready to take the next step in his career, having undergone significant development during his time at the club.
“His drive to continually improve and his ability to inspire the squad have been invaluable to our environment,” said Riget.
