Carl Veart, the head coach of Adelaide United, has indicated that adjustments to his squad are on the horizon after highlighting the team’s “weakness” in response to their 1-1 draw with Brisbane Roar in the Isuzu UTE A-League.
The Reds’ inconsistent performance persisted as teenagers Harry Crawford and Jacob Brazete showcased their long-range striking abilities at Coopers Stadium on Saturday night.
Currently, Adelaide finds themselves without a win in their last four matches, sitting in fifth place on the ladder, though they risk dropping to sixth by the end of the weekend.
Following the match against the last-placed Brisbane, Veart expressed his disappointment in a pointed press conference, particularly regarding the team’s second-half struggles.

“For the first ten minutes of the second half, we showed promise, but after that, we were essentially invisible,” Veart remarked to the media.
“Too many players faded into the background and weren’t prepared to put in the effort. It’s as straightforward as that.”
Crawford’s first A-Leagues goal provided Adelaide with a lead at halftime, yet the 18-year-old’s remarkable strike was soon equalled by substitute Brazete in the second half, as the Roar appeared more determined to seize victory.
Veart added: “We struggled to retain possession. There was a lack of intent to push forward.”
“This level of performance is simply unacceptable for a team aiming for a top-two finish.”
“Last week’s match (a thrilling 4-4 draw against league leaders Auckland FC) was filled with energy and commitment; it was probably the best we’ve seen all season.”
“To return home and deliver that performance against the bottom team is unacceptable, and there will be changes to the team as a result.”

In matches played at home against teams currently occupying the bottom three positions, Adelaide has now dropped points against Brisbane (draw), Newcastle Jets (loss), and Perth Glory (draw).
“This is a mentality issue,” Veart remarked. “It’s a notable weakness in our game. The evidence speaks for itself.”
“They might not like hearing it, but it’s the truth.”
“If we want to be competitive, we can’t afford to drop points at home against struggling teams.”
