After more than five years, Bronson Xerri returned to Shark Park on Saturday night, undoubtedly experiencing a whirlwind of emotions.
Having made his mark as a promising teenager with Cronulla in 2019, Xerri’s professional journey hit a major roadblock when he was handed a four-year suspension for a doping violation.
Now 25, he has managed to rebound at Canterbury, re-establishing himself as a standout attacking centre.
However, until this weekend, Xerri had not set foot on his former club’s home ground, and such a occasion can weigh heavily on some players. But for the Aquinas Colts junior, it was a different story, as he sealed the match with a try in the Bulldogs’ 20-6 victory over the Sharks.

In addition to his crucial try, Xerri also notched up a remarkable 146 run metres and recorded two line breaks, earning high praise from head coach Cameron Ciraldo during the post-match media briefing.
“He was fantastic,” Ciraldo stated.
“Bronson continues to amaze me each week; he’s actively embracing high-pressure situations and diligently honing his skills.”

“We always recognised his talent, but now he’s truly exemplifying a strong work ethic. We’re encouraging him to bring back those standout plays he’s renowned for and meld them with the relentless effort he’s exhibited over the past year.”
“Nothing seemed to unsettle him tonight; I thought he was exceptional.”
Xerri’s stellar performance over the past year has positioned him as a contender for a State of Origin debut—something that seemed highly improbable during his lengthy absence.
The unbeaten Bulldogs are set to clash with the Knights in round five.
