Reed Mahoney, the hooker for the Bulldogs, is set to relocate to Townsville next season, having signed a long-term contract with the Cowboys that will commence in 2026.
As reported by The Sydney Morning Herald, Mahoney will complete the 2025 season in the Bulldogs’ blue and white after securing an early release from the final year of his contract.
He will take the place of Reece Robson, who is heading to the Roosters, as a consequence of Brandon Smith’s move to the Rabbitohs.

The 27-year-old is said to have penned a three-year agreement.
Mahoney’s stint at Belmore has been troubled since Lachlan Galvin’s arrival at the club. He has been substituted twice after Galvin took over in the halves, with Toby Sexton then shifting to the No.9 position.

During the Bulldogs’ defeat to the Broncos on Friday night, coach Cameron Ciraldo altered his backline to incorporate Galvin into the starting roster. Matt Burton was shifted to centre, pushing Enari Tuala onto the wing and Blake Wilson took his place as 18th man.
This marks Mahoney’s second confirmed exit in consecutive days, following Toby Sexton’s announcement on Friday regarding his move to the Super League to fill Luke Keary’s spot at Catalans.
Having earlier received permission to explore the market this season, Mahoney has reportedly been in discussions with the Cowboys for several months.
The Cowboys had also pursued Tallyn Da Silva, who signed with the Eels last week.
Mahoney joined the Bulldogs in 2023 after spending five seasons at the Eels, culminating in a grand final defeat to the Panthers in 2022.
Since then, he has made 64 appearances in the Bulldogs’ colours and scored 10 tries.
