Cameron Ciraldo has commended the influence of his new halves combination following Lachlan Galvin’s starting debut for the Bulldogs.
Galvin partnered with Toby Sexton in the absence of Matt Burton, who was away on Origin duty.
With Sexton yet to secure a contract for next season, there has been significant speculation regarding Galvin’s future as the team’s halfback, sparking concerns about potential competition for spots next year.
Reed Mahoney may also find himself on the outer as he investigates possible moves to other clubs. Mahoney appeared frustrated in the changerooms last week when Galvin took the field and Sexton shifted to hooker.

Despite the speculation, the combination of Mahoney, Sexton, Galvin, and Connor Tracey showed no signs of concern against the Rabbitohs, with 18 points scored early in the first half.
“I thought both of them were fantastic, particularly in the first half,” Ciraldo remarked during his post-match press conference.

“Lachie’s a different type of player compared to what we’ve had previously, allowing him to play with a sense of freedom.
“I also thought Toby had his best first half of the season. He was direct and testing the defence, which is a positive sign for both of them. Their ability to click together is commendable, especially with all the external chatter surrounding them; they’ve prioritised the team and worked hard as a cohesive unit.”

Given the relative inexperience of both players, Ciraldo was questioned about whether external pressures had affected them.
“I haven’t noticed it having any impact on them. Everyone experiences pressure in their respective lives, so it’s crucial that everyone learns to cope with different types of pressure,” he replied.
“I’m really pleased with how both of them have managed theirs over the past few weeks.”
