In a dramatic opening quarter during their match in Hobart, Brisbane midfielder Jarrod Berry and North Melbourne defender Luke McDonald collided, leaving both players bloodied.
Berry was promptly substituted with a concussion, while McDonald required immediate medical assistance as blood flowed from his face.
The former Kangaroos captain, in an attempt to intercept a kick, failed to notice Berry and ran directly into him.

Realising the gravity of the situation, the umpire halted play as Berry, a key member of the Lions’ victorious 2024 AFL grand final team, appeared concussed even before he hit the ground.
Commentator Anthony Hudson referred to the incident as “sickening,” while Brownlow Medallist Gerard Healy deemed it an unfortunate accident.
McDonald, aged 30, managed to return to the game after receiving treatment for his injuries.
Since being drafted with pick 17 in 2016, Berry has played a total of 168 AFL matches for the Lions.
