Broncos star Ezra Mam’s return to rugby league got off to a rocky start as he was placed on report following his very first tackle in a Queensland Cup match.
After serving a nine-match suspension handed down by the NRL for injuring three individuals in a drug-related car accident while unlicensed, Mam made his comeback in the reserve grade with the Souths Logan Magpies on Sunday.
The five-eighth now faces the possibility of another suspension after being reported for a high tackle on Western Clydesdales prop Lachlan Mears-Crabbe, who appeared shaken and remained down for a brief period.
Suspensions at the reserve grade level are acknowledged by the NRL, meaning if Mam receives a penalty for the high tackle, he will miss his anticipated return to the first-grade squad against the Dragons next week.
A suspension would deal a significant blow not only to Mam but also to the Broncos, who are looking to him to step in for the injured Ben Hunt, who sustained a serious hamstring injury on Friday.
Hunt left the field late in the Broncos’ match against the Rabbitohs, which was won by South Sydney 22-14.

Mam managed to score a try, and hooker Tyson Smoothy contributed with two tries of his own.
