Brisbane Roar has confirmed that Mariel Hecher and Keeley Richards will hang up their boots after this weekend’s concluding round of the Ninja A-League season.
The Roar pair will play their final match when Brisbane faces off against second-placed Melbourne Victory at AAMI Park on Saturday afternoon.
Hecher joined the Roar at the start of the 2020-2021 season, and the 32-year-old forward has since become a key player, netting four goals and providing four assists across 48 appearances for the club.
Thus far this season, she has contributed two goals and two assists in 18 matches.

“Deciding to retire from football is never straightforward, especially after being part of a professional setup for an extended period,” Hecher remarked.
“It becomes ingrained in your identity and shapes how you live to improve your performance. I’m now ready for the next chapter in my life post-football, allowing me to focus on a full-time job, enjoy weekends off, and spend more quality time with family and friends.
“Being a part of Brisbane Roar for the last five seasons has been wonderful. I’ve created countless cherished memories, met some remarkable individuals, and this chapter will always hold a special place in my heart.”
Goalkeeper Richards made the switch from Canberra United to Brisbane after debuting in the top tier with the capital club in 2020.
She made her Roar debut in Round 20 last season after American goalkeeper Jordan Silkowitz returned to her parent club in the USA.
This weekend marks Richards’ 10th appearance for Brisbane.

“Since childhood, it’s been my dream to play professional football, and honestly, I never imagined I would reach this point,” Richards reflected.
“The past five years playing at this level have been absolutely amazing.
“I’m immensely thankful to Canberra United for the opportunity to debut and for allowing me to step onto the pitch with such extraordinary players at Viking Park—it’s a moment I will always treasure.
“Having the chance to spend my last two seasons at home with Brisbane Roar, playing in front of family and friends, has been a tremendous honour. The support from both the fans and the Brisbane community is unmatched, and I’m truly appreciative of everything.”
