Brad Arthur has expressed his enthusiasm for taking on the role of head coach for the North Sydney Bears when they make their much-anticipated return to the NRL. However, he has firmly dismissed any notion that his recent property acquisition in Perth is connected to this ambition.
As reported by The Sydney Morning Herald, the former coach of the Eels is a leading candidate to helm the league’s newest expansion team, set to enter the competition.
The confirmation arrived early on Thursday, indicating that the ARL Commission has approved the potential addition of a Western Australian side with ties to the North Sydney Bears.
Currently coaching Leeds Rhinos in the Super League, the 50-year-old stated his eagerness to lead the Western Australian team from 2027 onwards.

“It’s no secret that I would love to coach in the NRL once more,” Arthur remarked.
“I genuinely believe I have much to contribute and have gained invaluable lessons over the last year that will enhance my coaching abilities compared to when I departed Parramatta. I also wish to be closer to my two sons as it’s tough being away and missing out on their journeys.”
“Would I be interested in the Perth position? Absolutely. I believe I’ve demonstrated my capacity to build a club from the ground up, particularly given what I was tasked with at Parramatta.”
“This is still very much in the early stages… but if you’re inquiring if I’m interested, then yes.”

When asked about his property purchase in Coogee, Perth, late last year, Arthur responded to speculation about its relevance to the expansion team.
“I have a property on the Gold Coast as well; are people suggesting I’m set to coach the Titans too?” he joked.
“Michelle is originally from Perth and still has family there. We decided to invest in a property in Perth after selling another asset we owned.”

Arthur’s tenure at Parramatta spanned over 250 matches, leading the team to a grand final three years ago and achieving several top-eight finishes.
Warrington coach Sam Burgess has also been mentioned as a potential candidate, according to the Herald.
An official announcement from the NRL concerning the entry of the 18th club is anticipated soon.
