Borussia Dortmund defender Nico Schlotterbeck will miss the remainder of the season after sustaining a meniscus tear in his left knee, the Bundesliga club announced on Monday.
The 25-year-old’s injury arrives at a pivotal moment for the team as they strive for European qualification for the forthcoming season. Currently, Dortmund occupies the eighth position in the Bundesliga table with six matches left to play, trailing fourth-placed Mainz 05 by five points.
Additionally, Dortmund is set to face LaLiga leaders Barcelona in the first leg of their Champions League quarter-final on Wednesday. Last season, Dortmund finished as runners-up to Real Madrid in the Champions League.
“Nico’s absence is a significant blow for us. He plays a crucial role in our squad and has delivered consistently strong performances this season. We’re hopeful he will recover swiftly and will have our full support during his rehabilitation,” stated Dortmund’s Sporting Director, Sebastian Kehl.
