Bologna’s manager, Vincenzo Italiano, expressed that his team clinched the Coppa Italia trophy by reflecting on their recent loss to AC Milan and delivering a performance that honoured the occasion.
In a thrilling encounter at Stadio Olimpico on Wednesday, Bologna triumphed over Milan with a 1-0 victory, marking their first Coppa Italia success in 51 years and their third overall.
This victory came on the heels of Italiano’s squad facing a 3-1 defeat to Milan in Serie A just last Friday.
“After facing some setbacks, I truly believe we earned this, especially with such a fantastic display tonight. It was an exceptional performance, and we were well aware of Milan’s approach in the second half, so we reacted accordingly,” Italiano shared with Sport Mediaset.
The 47-year-old, originally from Germany, was finally able to toast his inaugural trophy as a manager after leading Fiorentina to both the UEFA Conference League final twice and the Coppa Italia final previously.
“Those were three significant disappointments. To be honest, I didn’t expect to bounce back this quickly and secure a win, but here we are. I dedicate this victory to my players, who are simply phenomenal,” Italiano remarked.
“We encountered some challenges initially, but we’ve continued to grow stronger, both as individuals and as a team. Now, please allow me to go celebrate, as this is just incredible,” he continued.
Bologna’s hero of the match, Dan Ndoye, commended his teammates for their defensive resilience.
“Today’s experience is unbelievable; seeing all our supporters in this stadium is amazing. It was a challenging match, but we did it for the city, for the fans, and we couldn’t be happier,” the Swiss international stated.
“We capitalised at the perfect moment and then defended like a true team, holding firm under pressure.”
