Bologna, a club in Serie A, has reportedly initiated a bidding competition for 20-year-old AZ winger, Ruben van Bommel.
As reported by De Telegraaf, the Serie A club submitted an offer of €15 million for Van Bommel, but AZ rebuffed the bid due to it falling short of their expectations.
Ruben van Bommel, the son of 79-time Netherlands international Mark van Bommel, made the switch to AZ on a free transfer from his local club MVV Maastricht. During the 2024/25 season, the right-footed left winger participated in 33 matches across various competitions, netting eight goals and assisting five.
Bologna is hoping to secure Van Bommel amidst competition from several Serie A and Premier League clubs, as per De Telegraaf.
The 20-year-old winger was also a member of the Dutch U21 team that reached the semi-finals in this year’s Under-21 European Championships. He contributed an assist in the final group match against Ukraine, but received a red card in the quarter-final against Portugal.
Van Bommel is tied to AZ with a contract that runs until 2027. The Alkmaar team is set to compete in the second qualifying round of the UEFA Conference League later this month.
