Bo Henriksen has been honoured as Coach of the Year in Denmark for the first time in his career, according to a press release from the Danish Football Association.
His colleagues have certainly taken notice of Henriksen’s noteworthy success at Mainz since he assumed the Bundesliga coaching role in February of the previous year.
On Thursday, the 50-year-old was recognised as Coach of the Year for his achievements over the past twelve months.
This marks the first occasion Henriksen has received this prestigious accolade.
“I am incredibly grateful to be named Coach of the Year. It’s been an exhilarating and enjoyable journey over the last 20 years. Many individuals have accompanied me along the way, and they all hold a significant share in this achievement.”
“A major goal in life is to make a mark and excel in some capacity—to win football matches and create memorable experiences for those around you. Now, I just need to go out and savour this moment,” Henriksen shared.
Thanks to Henriksen’s guidance, Mainz currently sits in third place in the Bundesliga, with an opportunity to secure a spot in next season’s Champions League.
The Coach of the Year award is determined based on votes from all Danish coaches operating in the men’s and women’s top divisions, as well as Danish coaches active abroad.
Brentford’s Thomas Frank finished second in the voting, while Kent Nielsen from Silkeborg came in third.
Last year’s award went to Jacob Neestrup, who led FC Copenhagen to both the Danish championship and a cup victory in 2023.
