Bayern Munich’s seasoned forward, Thomas Muller, is eager to reaffirm his value at the upcoming Club World Cup as his team journeys to the United States in pursuit of more silverware to conclude their season.
Having recently celebrated their success as Bundesliga champions under Vincent Kompany’s inaugural season in charge, Bayern and Muller are now focused on achieving a strong finish. For Muller, the Club World Cup holds significant appeal, especially with the World Cup set to take place in 2026.
Muller expressed, “Firstly, the fact that this is a global tournament is enticing, and in this format, it feels somewhat reminiscent of the World Cup. Previously, the Club World Cup involved only a select few teams.”
“We need to get a grip on the tournament first, but the fact that it’s being held in a country where the World Cup is scheduled for the following year is certainly thrilling for us.”

Although ticket sales for the tournament have been slower than expected, Muller is confident that fans will turn out to witness the top European teams in action.
“With this Club World Cup featuring players and cities like these, every European club, not just Bayern but also other leading teams like Real Madrid and top English sides, brings fans from across the globe together. Supporters will finally have the chance to see these players compete in their own country or region,” Muller stated.
“I think we’ll see a level of enthusiasm that’s often absent here, where it’s usually business as usual.”
Muller’s manager, Vincent Kompany, also shared his excitement about facing off against Argentine giants Boca Juniors in a recent discussion, a sentiment echoed by Muller himself.
He added, “Playing Boca Juniors would be a standout moment. I have a keen interest in football and follow what’s happening in the Argentinian domestic league through TV, the internet, and social media. An ex-team-mate of mine, Micho (Martin Demichelis), managed River Plate, and their matches against Boca Juniors are monumental.
“When you have historic clubs from footballing nations competing, be it in Brazil or Argentina, it’s something truly special.”
Despite his lengthy and successful career with Bayern, the Club World Cup presents Muller with yet another opportunity to showcase his abilities, notably as his contract is set to expire after the tournament.
“We’re looking forward to experiencing various cultures from different clubs coming together, and naturally, we aim to advance to the knockout stage. The passion for the game and the drive to win—that competitiveness—is something innate; it’s not something you can learn,” he said.
“For me, it’s about continually proving myself, both within the squad, which can be quite challenging given the talent we have, and externally as a club. It’s about facing these challenges repeatedly, both physically and competitively, and coming out on top.
“That’s what excites me; it’s not merely about holding the trophy, which is just a piece of metal you earn at the end of it all, but it’s the journey you take to get there that truly motivates me.”
