Bayern Munich celebrated their 125th anniversary with a remarkable 3-1 comeback victory over VfB Stuttgart, putting them a substantial 11 points clear at the top of the Bundesliga, following their ninth win in the last 10 league outings.
Despite Stuttgart’s concerning recent form, they started brightly. Bayern loanee Alexander Nübel played a long ball that fell favourably for Josha Vagnoman, who unfortunately directed his effort straight at Manuel Neuer.
It seemed that Stuttgart were inspired by their victory in the corresponding fixture last season, which had been crucial in finishing above Bayern, as they continued to threaten, particularly through the elusive Nick Woltemade.
They managed to survive a few nervy moments, including a last-ditch challenge from Finn Jeltsch on Leroy Sané.
Bayern had displayed moments of danger, but it was Stuttgart who dominated possession and created more opportunities leading up to their first goal.
The visitors might have taken heed of Deniz Undav’s shot striking the outside of the post; however, they couldn’t prevent Angelo Stiller from receiving the ball from Vagnoman, unleashing a powerful left-footed strike into the top corner.
Nevertheless, a complacent Stuttgart left themselves exposed at the back just before half-time, allowing Sané to find Michael Olise, who equalised with a smart finish inside the far post.
That goal reinvigorated Bayern, who appeared revitalised after the break, crafting numerous scoring chances before taking the lead for the first time in the match.

Bayern’s breakthrough came from a defensive blunder, as Nübel’s pass put Stiller under pressure, leading to Leon Goretzka intercepting the ball and slotting it home.
In the dying moments, Stuttgart appeared frazzled, resulting in yet another mistake as Vagnoman lost possession to Kingsley Coman, who rounded the advancing Nübel to slot it into an open net from distance.
This loss marked Stuttgart’s third consecutive defeat at home, their worst run since February 2022, while Bayern can take this as a sign of their improvement, especially considering their struggles earlier in the 2023/24 season.
With their impressive scoring record after 24 matches and newfound defensive solidity, which few anticipated when Vincent Kompany joined over the summer, Bayern are looking increasingly formidable.
