Barcelona midfielder Marc Casado has sustained a partial tear of the knee ligament during last weekend’s triumph over Atletico Madrid and is expected to be sidelined for approximately two months, the LaLiga leaders announced on Tuesday.
The 21-year-old has featured in 37 matches across all competitions this season for Hansi Flick’s squad.
Casado has withdrawn from Spain’s Nations League team due to the injury.
The setback occurred when he was substituted in the 67th minute of Barcelona’s thrilling 4-2 victory at Atletico Madrid.
“It has been confirmed that he has a partial tear of the lateral collateral ligament in his right knee,” stated Barcelona in their communication.
“He will undergo conservative treatment, which means he is expected to be unavailable for around two months.”
Currently, Barcelona sits atop the LaLiga standings, ahead of Real Madrid on goal difference, with Atletico trailing by four points and having a match in hand.
They remain in contention for a potential treble.
Barcelona’s Copa del Rey semi-final against Atletico is tied at 4-4 as they head into the second leg, while they will also face Borussia Dortmund in the quarter-finals of the Champions League next month.
