Barcelona manager Hansi Flick has sent a clear message to their Champions League competitors, asserting that his side is still striving for improvement despite their emphatic 4-0 victory over Borussia Dortmund on Wednesday evening.
The Catalan giants have firmly positioned themselves in the semi-finals, following a commanding first leg performance against last year’s finalists at the Olympic Stadium.
Leading the competition in goals scored, with an impressive tally of 36, Barca’s electrifying attacking trio of Robert Lewandowski, Raphinha, and Lamine Yamal instills fear in the opposition.
“I’m keen to keep progressing; today highlighted areas where we can enhance our game,” Flick expressed during his post-match press conference.
“We will review the match, and while I will commend the players for their efforts, there are still aspects we can refine.
“I’m pleased with the result today, but it’s merely the first step.”
Raphinha, who recorded his 12th goal in the Champions League this season, once again showcased his prowess, leading the scoring charts and contributing two assists.
The Brazilian now boasts 19 direct goal contributions this European campaign, equalling the record set by club legend Lionel Messi.
“I’ve always believed he is an exceptional player… the team relies heavily on his dynamism,” noted Flick about Raphinha.
On the other hand, Dortmund’s coach Niko Kovac expressed his disappointment in his team’s performance.
“It was a well-deserved loss, but we had opportunities to score. The return leg will certainly prove challenging,” Kovac analysed.
“While I’m hopeful, I must also be realistic… this result puts us in a tough spot, and our chances of progression seem slim.
“We understand the task ahead is daunting, yet we must hold onto a glimmer of hope, for without that, success will be unattainable.“
