Barcelona’s Robert Lewandowski has sustained a hamstring injury, as confirmed by the LaLiga club on Sunday following the Polish striker’s early exit in their thrilling 4-3 victory against Celta Vigo.
The 34-year-old, who marked his 100th LaLiga appearance on Saturday, suffered the injury late in the match while clutching his leg, moments before Barcelona celebrated their winner in the 98th minute, further consolidating their lead in LaLiga.
“Tests conducted today have revealed that first-team player Robert Lewandowski is suffering from an injury to the semitendinosus muscle in his left thigh,” the club stated.
“His return to training will hinge on the progression of the injury.”
While the club hasn’t provided a specific timeline for his comeback, it’s possible that this hamstring injury could keep the 36-year-old out of the Copa del Rey final against Real Madrid next weekend.
Reports from Spanish media suggest he could be unavailable for up to three weeks, which would be a significant setback for Barcelona, who are set to face Inter Milan in the Champions League semi-finals in the near future.
Lewandowski currently leads the LaLiga scoring charts with 25 goals this season, three ahead of Kylian Mbappe from Real Madrid.
