Barcelona defender Mapi Leon has been handed a two-match suspension by Liga F for allegedly inappropriately touching Espanyol defender Daniela Caracas during their Catalan derby in February, as reported by the BBC on Wednesday.
Leon was accused of “violating Caracas’ personal space” on February 10, after seemingly making an inappropriate touch in the groin area while conversing with her as both players positioned themselves inside the box for a set piece, just 15 minutes into the match.
Espanyol has voiced their “complete discontent and condemnation” regarding Leon’s actions and have shown support for the Colombian defender.
Liga F has yet to provide a response to a request for comment from Reuters.
The 29-year-old has firmly denied the allegations, asserting that there was “no contact with her private parts.”
“At no point did I intend to, nor did I, infringe upon the personal space of my fellow professional, Daniela Caracas,” she stated.
Leon served the first match of her suspension last weekend against Atletico Madrid and will also miss Barcelona’s upcoming league clash with Sevilla.
Barcelona, sitting four points ahead of second-placed Real Madrid, had their appeal against the suspension rejected.
