On Wednesday, Barcelona revealed that they will make their long-anticipated return to the Camp Nou for a friendly match on August 10, following years of extensive renovation and expansion work on the legendary stadium.
The upcoming Joan Gamper Trophy match marks only a partial reopening of the stadium, as construction will still be ongoing in several areas, as stated by the reigning Spanish champions.
The ongoing works include the finishing touches on the new third tier, a dual VIP ring, roof installation, interior spaces, as well as improvements to the facilities surrounding the stadium.
While the club has not disclosed the specific capacity for the reopening, local reports suggest that around 35,000 fans will be able to attend.
“Barcelona is taking a significant and emotional step towards the future, reclaiming its home as we enter a new era that will see the complete inauguration of the revamped stadium,” the club expressed.
In order to allow for continued work on the stadium, Barça has requested to play their first three La Liga fixtures away from home this upcoming season.
After experiencing multiple delays since the project kicked off in 2023, “Espai Barça” is expected to be completed by the summer of 2026, with an aim to increase Camp Nou’s capacity to 105,000.
In the meantime, Barcelona has been hosting their home games at the smaller MontjuĂŻc Olympic Stadium.
