WATCH: Andrew Redmayne’s heartfelt interview.
Andrew Redmayne, widely regarded as Sydney FC’s finest goalkeeper, bid farewell at Allianz Stadium on Sunday, following the announcement of his departure from the club where he has made 237 appearances and clinched eight titles by the season’s end.
Although Redmayne did not participate in the thrilling 3-2 comeback win against Newcastle Jets, the day was undeniably dedicated to him as the club paid tribute to their No. 1 goalkeeper.
Before the match commenced, the 36-year-old walked through a guard of honour with his wife and children, celebrating his remarkable tenure that has seen him become the most capped goalkeeper in the club’s history.
His outstanding performances for Sydney also led to four caps for the Socceroos, with his heroic penalty save that secured Australia’s place at the 2022 World Cup cementing his status as a national icon.
Ufuk Talay’s men came back from a two-goal deficit to claim the 3-2 victory, as young star Jaiden Kucharski netted a late winner, securing vital points in the race for finals contention.
Upon scoring, Kucharski sprinted to Redmayne, who embraced the young player on the sidelines, marking yet another unforgettable moment for the veteran keeper.
However, the most poignant part of the day unfolded post-match during an interview with Paramount+, where Redmayne became emotional while reflecting on his time with Sydney FC.

“I feel a bit emotional, but honestly, I’m just pleased to get the three points and extend the season,” he shared.
“It was special that (Sydney FC media manager) Dave Warriner and the club wanted to do something. I was hesitant about whether I should. I’m not usually one for the limelight. But yeah, it’s been a special journey.”
When asked what stands out from his time at the Sky Blues, he replied, “It’s probably the small moments that go unnoticed.”
“I remember little things on the pitch that hardly anyone else would have seen, aside from maybe Rhyan Grant and a handful of others, as well as times spent in the kit room and the gym. Those moments truly make it special for me.”
“It’s hard to explain; it’s everything to me, in a way.”
“I wouldn’t have achieved what I have in my career without the support from those who welcomed me into the club.”
“They believed in me during a time when I struggled to believe in myself.”
Indeed, when Redmayne made the switch to Sydney from crosstown rivals Western Sydney Wanderers, his career was hanging in the balance.
He leaves as undoubtedly the greatest goalkeeper in the club’s history.
The seasoned shot-stopper has yet to announce his next career move.
For now, his focus remains on helping Sydney FC secure a spot in the top six and reach finals football in the Isuzu UTE A-League.
