Auckland FC have bolstered their goalkeeping options with the signing of Scott Morris from Stoke City, following the exit of Alex Paulsen ahead of the forthcoming Isuzu UTE A-League season.
Hailing from Nelson, Morris made a mark at several clubs across New Zealand before attracting attention from Stoke City while playing for Christchurch United.
After joining the Potters in early 2024, the 24-year-old featured in a few matches for Stoke’s reserve team against notable opponents such as Newcastle United and Liverpool, before making his way back home to sign with Auckland FC, a club managed by Premiership-winning coach Steve Corica.

“It’s fantastic to be back home in New Zealand and joining a club with such a vibrant and passionate fan base,” said Morris.
“I’ve been keeping a close eye on the Auckland FC journey from afar. It’s been remarkable to witness; nothing of this kind has ever existed before.
“I’m thrilled to be part of the team and to contribute to what Steve, Terry (Director of Football Terry McFlynn), and Gouldy (goalkeeping coach Jonathan Gould) have built.”

After Paulsen’s move back to Premier League side AFC Bournemouth, the Black Knights were in need of extra firepower in their goalkeeping ranks. Morris’ addition sets the stage for competition with current keepers Michael Woud and Joseph Knowles for the first-choice spot.
“Scott is a talented young player with significant potential,” said Gould when discussing Morris’ competition with Woud for a starting position.
“As a goalkeeper, you must be ready to step in at any moment, and as a backup, it demands tremendous patience, focus, and dedication, even with limited playing time.
“He will be a fantastic asset to our squad, and I’m excited to work with him.”
