Arsenal’s Stina Blackstenius, a true hero, expressed her disbelief at scoring the decisive goal that led the Gunners to a stunning victory over Barcelona in the women’s Champions League final on Saturday.
The Swedish forward made a notable impact after coming on in the second half, netting during a counter-attack as Arsenal clinched their second trophy, having previously won in 2007.
“It’s going to take a while for it to sink in that we’ve actually won; it’s such a significant moment for us,” she remarked to DAZN.
“I’m thrilled with my goal, but this was a true team effort… I’m incredibly proud of everyone, as they enabled me to score.“
Barcelona has been a dominant force in women’s football in recent years, claiming three out of the last four Champions League titles, including the most recent two.
Nonetheless, Arsenal showcased their strength in the first half and demonstrated resilience in the latter stages of the match, with Blackstenius finding the back of the net during the final moments.
“Some players had the game of their lives. I’m just over the moon,” stated Arsenal defender Leah Williamson, who performed exceptionally well against Barcelona striker Ewa Pajor, as reported by TNT Sports.
“In the first half, we created several opportunities, and I don’t think people grasped how well we played. We mentioned that in the second half, we only needed one chance, and Stina seized it.
“I’m trying hard not to swear or cry!” laughed Arsenal manager Renee Slegers, expressing her pride in the team’s determination to withstand Barcelona’s pressure in the second half.
“Signs of a winning team show when they struggle together, endure together, and discover ways to claim victory,” she noted in her interview with DAZN.
“This season, we’ve managed to do that in crucial, high-pressure situations.”
