Arsenal has officially secured the services of Spanish goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga from Chelsea, as announced by the Premier League club on Tuesday. Reports indicate that Arsenal activated a release clause worth five million pounds ($6.86 million) to acquire the world’s priciest goalkeeper.
Kepa, aged 30, made the move to Chelsea from Athletic Bilbao in 2018 for a fee of 71 million pounds. He achieved notable success at Chelsea, winning the Europa League in 2019, the Champions League two years later, and the Club World Cup in 2022. However, he has spent the last two seasons out on loan.
Last term, Kepa served as Bournemouth’s first-choice goalkeeper in the Premier League, and during the previous campaign, he made 20 appearances for Real Madrid, contributing to their triumph in both LaLiga and the Champions League.
Prior to his loan to Bournemouth last August, Kepa extended his Chelsea contract until 2026. Now, reports from British media suggest he has signed a three-year deal with Arsenal, where he will don the number 13 shirt as he steps in as a backup to David Raya.
