Arsenal have completed the signing of Spanish goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga from Chelsea, the Premier League club announced on Tuesday. Reports indicate that Arsenal activated a £5 million ($6.86 million) release clause to acquire the world’s priciest goalkeeper.
Kepa, 30, originally joined Chelsea from Athletic Bilbao in 2018 for a record £71 million. Since then, he has secured an impressive trophy haul, including the Europa League in 2019, the Champions League in 2021, and the Club World Cup in 2022. However, he has spent the last two seasons out on loan.
In the most recent season, Kepa served as Bournemouth’s primary goalkeeper in the Premier League, while in the prior season, he made 20 appearances for Real Madrid, contributing to their triumphs in LaLiga and the Champions League.
Prior to his loan to Bournemouth last August, Kepa extended his contract with Chelsea until 2026. He has now signed a three-year deal with Arsenal, where he will don the number 13 shirt and act as a backup to David Raya, according to British media reports.
