Japan international and defender Takehiro Tomiyasu is set to part ways with Arsenal by mutual consent after making only six minutes of playing time last season due to a knee injury, the club announced on Friday.
The 26-year-old faced numerous knee and calf injuries throughout his four-year tenure at the North London club, with some instances keeping him off the pitch for extended periods. He has been out of action since undergoing knee surgery in February.
“Regrettably, injuries have curtailed Tomi’s playing time over the past two seasons, with the defender featuring only once as a substitute last season,” Arsenal stated in their announcement.
“It was agreed mutually to terminate Tomi’s contract, allowing him to embark on a new chapter in his career.”
The former Bologna star made a total of 65 Premier League appearances for Arsenal, during which he netted two goals.
Arsenal, who have finished second in the league for the past three seasons, will kick off their 2025-26 campaign against Manchester United on August 17.
